Project Description:  
The purpose of this proposal is to provide low income parents of children 0 to 5 years of age with practical education and skills in parenting in a comfortable, linguistically and culturally appropriate setting, with ongoing support that helps them use the new information in their own homes with their children.   The project will work with parent mentors, recruited from parents in childcare centers and clients in our licensed family daycare development program.  The mentors will be trained in several areas: behavior and development, nutrition and health, safety and prevention, family stress management, discipline, and having fun with babies and toddlers.

Project Description:  
This proposal will support the development and implementation of a parenting education program for parents of child victims of sexual abuse.  Parenting education is an essential component of an effective, long-term strategy to support a child's healing and to prevent any recurrence of abuse.  The program will serve parents and guardians throughout the County.

Project Description:  
This proposal seeks to fund activities designed to expand and extend parent-to-parent peer support and training activities to families of children (birth to five) with special needs, living throughout Contra Costa County.  Using multiple strategies, including home visits, drop-in clinics, workshops, off-site meetings, and an "800" warmline, we will both educate and support parents in an unfamiliar role.  We anticipate serving approximately 200 parents and providing services to monolingual Spanish-speaking families of special needs children birth to five.

Project Description:  
The goal of the CCJCC Preshcool Parent Education and Support Program is to inform and enable parents of children ages 0 to 5 years in targeted neighborhoods closest to the CCJCC (e.g., Monument Corridor, Bay Point, and El Pueblo) to access parent education and resources.  A key component of the program involves using parents from the targeted communities and parents of CCJCC preschool children as peer mentors and instructors.  Program participants will benefit from access to information and support systems gained from meetings, discussion groups, home visits, and resource materials.


Organization Name:  Crossroads High School / Mt. Diablo Unified School District

Project Description:  
Crossroads High School (CHS) is a necessary small high school within the Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MSUSD), established to meet the specific needs of pregnant and parenting students.  CHS enrolls up to 50 pregnant and parenting teens, with a current enrollment of 43 students.  On-campus child care is provided for children of CHS students, up to age 3.  CHS can serve up to 36 infants and toddlers in its on-campus child care facilities, with a current enrollment of 24.  While CHS has developed a solid academic program and has continually attempted to provide additional services, there is a need for additional counseling services, casework support and parent education in the areas of health and psychology for our students if we are to break the cycles of pregnancy and poverty.

Project Description:  
The Pittsburg Infant and Toddler Program (PITP) will be directed at low-income, minority families with children 0-5.  The purpose of PITP will be to improve parenting skills, improve knowledge of child development, health and well-being, improve parent-child interaction and parent coping skills, reduce child abuse and neglect; and reduce delayed identification of physical, developmental and cognitive problems of children 0-5.

Project Description:  
The Homeless Education Program (HEP) of the West Contra Costa Unified School District will coordinate a collaborative comprised of several primary provider agencies to an at-risk population of homeless pregnant and parenting teens.  This population is between 15 and 19 years of age, primarily African American, Latino and Asian.  The youth are extremely low income, sometimes no income teens, living with friends, other family members, or on the streets, and are unable to provide a sustaining, nurturing environment for their children without support.  The purpose of the collaborative is to re-direct teenage parents to continuing their education, reduce potential incidence of neglect and abuse to their children ages 0 to 5 years old, provide parent training and support, and exposure to family values.
